Living on a Health Budget

Recently, many people have asked me questions about creating a health budget.  There are a few things to consider when creating this all-important, life-changing budget.

First, please educate yourself on the importance of organic produce.  When the liver is having to process the pesticides, toxic chemicals and genetically modified produce, the liver becomes stagnant and toxic.  A conventionally grown apple may seem healthy, but after the liver processes all of the toxic ingredients, you may be better off NOT eating the conventionally grown apple!  The body more readily absorbs produce which is organically grown.  Organically grown produce also tastes better!  Dozens of my clients in the past who shared their dislike of (conventionally grown) apples were pleasantly surprised with the delicious taste of an organically grown apple.

Also, please notice I said organic produce, not organic chips.  Boxed items are not our optimal choice for creating a healthy lifestyle, and boxed or bagged organic food is an oxymoron!  Better to purchase your produce organic, and look for the best price if you ARE purchasing chips, and thinking towards the ultimate goal of eliminating the store bought chips altogether, invest in a dehydrator, and make your own truly healthy chips.

Second, write out two groups of your health budget.  Group #1 will have the appliances and kits that will last you over several year’s use.  The anti viral kit for cold and flu, a cell salts kits, and liver cleansing kit and various items such as a neti pot, enema bucket, ***Vitamix, Omega Juicer, dehydrator will be in this group.   The appliances are long term products that you will be using daily or many times each week for your healthy lifestyle.

Group #2 will have products to purchase each month.  Products like the Vibrant Body Health kit will be used every day, and purchased on a monthly basis.  Olive leaf, chia seed, hemp seed are products you may use once or twice a day.

Third, look in your pantry, kitchen and bathroom cabinets.  Several years ago, I would be invited into client’s homes to assess what was in their cabinets.  This assessment was done to determine what health products would be a good re-purchase, and what products were either downright toxic, not purposeful, or another product on the market could replace a particular product that would be less expensive and more multi-purpose.  If we were able to add up the cost of the unnecessary or toxic ingredient products, and replace with organic produce and purposeful appliances and quality, whole food products, most times, the healthier purchases would be less expensive!

A few quick tips for creating a health budget:

1. Consider keeping a health product journal, logging your experience with each product you purchase.

2.  Just because the ingredients show the same on the label does NOT mean they are the same QUALITY ingredients, therefore, will not have the same results.

3.  Less is better!  The fewer the products you take on a daily basis, the better off you will feel!

4.  Instead of purchasing a product like fish oil, which does not have any health benefits, as it creates more toxic buildup (dead enzyme, source of fish), consider a whole food like chia seed, which has multiple nutrients, like a complete protein, quality Omega 3′s, fiber, and so much more.

5.  Are there items on a daily basis that you take as a supplement (like D3), that you could get for FREE from daily intake of the sun?

6.  Are there food items you eat or drink on a daily basis that are depleting or counteracting the effects of the product nutrients you are paying for on a daily basis? (Coffee and soda immediately come to mind).

All Health Products are not Created Equal

One of my favorite places to cruise the aisles is Whole Foods.  Although there are a few things I do not like about Whole Foods (like many of the stores not offering organic greens at their salad bar, and many of their juice bars not juicing organic greens), looking through the supplement aisle is a great opportunity to get a pulse about what everyone else is looking new information and education.  Deciphering what is True health and what is a new fad or trendy supplement can be very tricky.  One thing I realize is True for most supplement aisles..confusion.  The products are, indeed organized, however what really needs to be purchased? Is the product Truly healthy? Will the product create more toxic problems? Are there any contraindications? These are a few of many questions people should ask themselves when looking at a product to purchase.

I suggest to you a simple approach to deciphering what is necessary and what should be put back on the shelf.

There are five general guidelines:

1.   Parent company. Have you ever heard of this product before or is it a trending product?  People will ask me if I have ever heard of this new product or of the latest, greatest ingredient on the planet that is going to ‘cure’ this, that, the other.  Hmmm…all the ingredients we need to heal have been on this earth from 5000 years to millions of years!  We don’t need a new product to help the body do what it does best..heal and repair!

2.  Truly clean ingredients.  Words like ‘natural’, or other words that you have to sound out the ingredients are products you should immediately put back on the shelf.  The fewer ingredients, the better.

3.  Logic.  Does it fill a true need in our diet and lifestyle?  It may be advertised as the latest, greatest supplement of all time, however how will it make your life better?  Logically does it make sense that you should need this product on a daily basis?  Yogurt is one of those products.  Eating yogurt once in awhile as a treat is fine, however eating it daily, yogurt is not a health product.  Just take a look at the first 5 ingredients.  Also, anything pasteurized is a dead food.  It has been processed with a high heat to kill off the (good) bacteria, that feed the good flora.

4.  Price. How does it compare to other similar products in the marketplace?  I like to look at my Vibrant Body Health Kit, which is a 30 day supply of 6 whole food nutrient products.  When  comparing what other products are out there, there are two possible roadblocks:  the prices are considerably higher for other company’s similar products.  Also, most companies do not have a foundational kit, per se, which can create a lot of confusion in what to purchase and what is important in the daily routine.  Finally, if a person is going to take a product on a daily basis, having for example, a medicinal herb as one of the ingredients can become toxic if consuming on a daily basis for more than a few weeks.

5.  Repurpose.  Should you purchase a mixture of 3 products for $20 or the whole food ingredients separately?  Will you be healthier and will you save money?  There are several products on the market that have chia, hemp, flax, herbs, and about 10 other ingredients included.  Although the ingredients may be healthy, however eating the same exact ingredients everyday can lead to allergies, and ultimately symptoms.  The whole ingredient, by itself can often times be purchased for considerable less, allowing rotation of the diet to be simple.

The money saved by not purchasing the products we don’t need can be used to purchase the organic dark leafy greens and other produce.

Less is better…make it simple and be Vibrant!

Living With a Purpose

Today, as I catch up on my reading, I came across this great article.  I hope people will not just scroll, and rather respond to this post. The article was written by a Rabbi.  He quotes (Deut.4:39) “And you shall know today and place it in your heart that God is God in the heavens above and on the ground below, there is none other”.  The Rabbi goes on to explain that this verse teaches from wherever our own beliefs take us, there aren’t hundreds or thousands of entities…it all stops at the One and only.  I was brought up Catholic, have practiced Christianity for a majority of my life, have many friends and family that practice the same, or Judaism, Mormonism, Mysticism, Agnostic or Atheism.  Ironically, it applies to ALL!   The common bond for the Oneness is this:   this understanding is extremely powerful in many areas of our lives as the Bible instructs us to “place it in our hearts”.  When our Purpose, our will, our emotions line up with this reality,  we are less anxious, we worry less, we are more optimistic and more confident in ourselves, which perpetuates into our world.  “Not knowing what our Purpose in this world is creates a black hole in our minds.”(addictions..and they are ALL the same, just named something different)
Everything in our life happens for a reason!  Things that happen on a daily basis cannot possibly be summed up to coincidence!  The lessons are there, only if we are paying attention.  This article is so appropriate for the month dedicated to ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month’.  Why live in fear?  The frantic search for the Cure…people are putting all of their faith in a pill to be created, only so they can pay lots of money to take this pill when they Do have the dis-ease??  Why not practice The 7 Steps to Vibrant Body Health?  These 7 Steps can be practiced daily while we are ‘waiting’ for the c_re to happen.  Who knows? What is YOUR Health Budget?

My brain compartmentalizes almost everything I do!  What I mean by this is although I am far from being considered organized (who needs organization??) I find myself always grouping my thoughts into categories.

Take for instance, health.  Wow!  No surprise there that my brain is always contemplating health.  I think about the anti viral kit for the common cold, or flu: Olive Leaf, Vibrant Colon Health, and peppermint oil. (look at Anti-Viral kit on my website for more info).  Also, my brain has a habit of grouping things into threes.  I try to choose for my clients the top three items that will MOST likely help them through their healing crisis the fastest.

Often times, as I am at a health food store,  I cruise the supplement aisle.  I am not looking for products.   I am curious to see what people are looking at in these aisles.  Whether they are in front of the colon health area, the probiotic section, or even the menopause area, I am always tempted (and admittedly, sometimes I will start up a conversation about health)  to say to the person I see “Hey, why don’t you hand over your health budget monies, and let me handle that part for you?”

A health budget seems like a crazy idea (something like an organized desk), or is it??  Most people have no clue how much they spend on their supplements, tinctures, tonics, lotions and potions.  I see people purchasing products which are crazy expensive.  They heard about the health product on a tv commercial, read about it in a health magazine, or a friend at the gym told them it was a great product.  Humbly speaking, many of these store bought products just won’t do the trick like my system of three:

1.  A foundational kit to give the body the basics
2.  Quality foods and quality water to nourish the body
3.  An effective solution to move toxins out of the body

There is so much in depth information in each of the above three steps, however after a person gets the gist of each concept, the results are life-changing.

So much money is wasted on products in the marketplace on products that just do NOT work!  That is why the supplement industry is a billion dollar a year industry.  The correct products are not expensive, if they are truly quality products that actually work.  When you see how much sickness can cost, no wonder people are living in fear about our healthcare system.  Confusion about what works, what are quality products, and what if they don’t work? are on the top of many people’s minds when it comes to self medicating.

Logically looking at any product i look at three things:

1.  How many (or few ingredients) are in your health product?  Vibrant Colon Health has only three ingredients!  i saw a comparable product on another very popular health website.  Their product was $10 less, however there were 5 more ingredients than the ingredients in my product.  The other ingredients were fillers.  Extra ingredients create a huge taxation on the liver, and the body has to eliminate these extra ingredients, which are not health-giving ingredients.  If you take a product like this once in awhile, fine.  Daily use, toxic build up creates more harm than good.

Less is better!  Fewest products and  highest quality of ingredients possible. The fewer products, adding in the other required nutrients from food sources throughout the day, the more our body will thank us by showing radiant, glowing skin, normal weight, and overall Vibrancy!

Dry Skin Brushing

Dry skin brushing is not exactly the topic you want to have at the dinner table, explaining how to make sure you lightly brush your buttocks,  or maybe you do?!  I mean, everyone is listening, and you will absolutely have everyone’s attention turning towards what you are about to explain.  People read gossip magazines, because it is drama and a topic that stirs the pot…so is dry skin brushing!  How many of your family and friends dry skin brush on a daily basis ?
When I ask people if they have been doing dry skin brushing on a daily basis, many people stop, stammer, and think of excuses WHY they have not done it!  I then ask if they would forget to brush their teeth? Of course not!  To create a habit, it takes 21 days, on a daily basis, to commit to doing whatever you are wanting to commit to memory.
I have my toothbrush, Dry Skin Brush, tooth powder, floss, hair brush, tongue scraper,  scalp stimulator all in the top drawer of my bathroom.  I take all of these items out every morning, knowing each item is an important step towards Vibrant Body Health.  As I use each item, I put back in drawer, including the Dry Skin Brush, knowing I have accomplished it all.  Do I really do this every day?  Yes, but after dry skin brushing for almost 10 years, I think the habit is there. More important than having to know a specific technique of skin brushing, are some more important things to consider.
1.  The dry skin brush should be soft, natural bristle, and not stiff.  If it has rough bristles, you are going to avoid dry skin brushing!
2.  Start at the tops of your feet.  Do the tops of your toes, feet, ankles, and up each leg, in short (not heavy) strokes.  Dry skin brush the back of your legs, and buttocks, then brush your stomach in a circular, clockwise motion a few times.  This circular motion is the same way the large intestines eliminate, and this motion is said to help with stimulating elimination.
3.  Continue brushing in an upwards motion, on either side of the body, and up the back..whatever you can reach, or ask your significant other to dry skin brush your back, light, upward strokes.   Men, brush everything on your chest towards your heart, which has a pump, unlike the lymphatic glands. If  you are a female, lightly dry skin brush your breasts, avoiding the nipple area.
4.  Starting  with the fingernails, lightly brush the tops of the right hand, moving towards the shoulder, then under the arms, lightly.
5.  Brush the back of the neck upwards, in fact into the hairline is fine, as it redistributes the sebaceous oil that is greatest at the nape of the neck.  Then brush your entire hairline to redistribute that oil.
6.  Do NOT brush the face, because it is too harsh for the delicate facial skin.
7.  This entire process should take approximately 2-3 minutes. You will love how your skin feels when you dry skin brush!
8.  Perhaps most important is that dry skin brushing is done before you shower, exercise, or begin to sweat.  Do NOT get the dry skin brush wet.  I like to use a dry face cloth to wipe off my dry skin brush after use, ready for the next day.
